Oh my goodness, you guys, I just finished "When He's Not There" by zee reneé, and I'm still buzzing! Seriously, this book was a whirlwind from start to finish. I went in completely blind – this was my first time reading anything by this author – and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long! The description hinted at some drama, but it seriously undersells the intensity. From page one, the action is non-stop, a perfectly paced rollercoaster that kept me hooked until the very last word.

Sanai Lee is a force of nature. She's bold, she's captivating, and she absolutely does not play games. Her relationship with Jaxson is…well, let's just say it's far from perfect, and she's more than capable of handling herself when he falls short. And fall short, he does, spectacularly. This leaves the door wide open for Truce Wright, a man who is, to put it mildly, incredibly assertive and ambitious. He's everything Jaxson isn't – confident, protective, and utterly devoted once he sets his sights on Sanai.

The chemistry between Sanai and Truce is off the charts. Seriously, the heat level is scorching; I found myself repeatedly fanning myself while reading. It's not just physical attraction though; there's a real connection, a mutual respect and understanding that develops between them which makes their relationship so compelling. Truce isn't just some alpha male; he genuinely builds Sanai up, supports her, and has her back through thick and thin. He's the kind of man who makes you swoon (and maybe even reread certain scenes...just me?).

I loved how Sanai takes control of her own life and reclaims her power. She doesn't shy away from confronting those who've wronged her, and seeing her dish out some well-deserved comeuppance was incredibly satisfying. My favorite scene? Hands down, the kitchen showdown.
